ZIMBABWEAN YOUTHS FIGHTING CORRUPTION

THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR YOUTHS AGAINST CORRUPTION  



Official Launch:- The NAYAC official launch was held at the Welfare Centre on 12 April 2006 in Chegutu. About 320 people gathered to witness the event. Other organisations such as The Chiild Vision Organisation, Chegutu Business Community,The Boy Scouts Association, Youth Against Poverty and various student activists also performed their pieces during the day. From the Governmenmt the then Minister of State Enterprises, Anti Corruption and Anti Monopolies Mr. P.M Mangwana attended the function.   The Business Community and musicians from around Chegutu and Kadoma where also present.

Awareness Campaigns:-Several awareness campaigns to teach the youths how to 1. Prevent  2. Report and expose corruption were taught in public places and work places which include The municipality. 2006 recorded 6 Awareness campaigns due to limited resources in terms of transport and finance to hire public address systems and for printing pamphlets for distribution. However a large increase from tthe 120 membership in Chegutu to around 860 members from HHarare, Chinhoyi, Kadoma, Gweru, Bulawayo , Norton and Marondera was an achievement noted.

Day of Youths Against Corruption:- (July 20) The Founder President marked this day to be the day of Youths against corruption in Zimbabwe.  The function was held at the Chegutu town house. It began with a peaceful march against corrupt practices which where contributing to the general suffering of the public.  School students from the Four high schools(Chegutu , Pfupajena, St.Francis and Ameva) attended. A lot of poetry was recited in the course to fight corruption.  The Local authorities(The mayor and Education officers ) also attended.

Cases of Corruption exposed:- Our research members managed to bring to the hands of the law the following cases;

1. At the Midlands State University students were being asked to pay bribes for admission and residence. Our members managed to trap and have to confession a public officer at the admissions office together with an agent student and submitted findings to the Anti- corruption commission and no results have been recorded on their action towards such.

2. Politicians were offering fake offer letters to white commercial farmers for a very high cost and robbing them their hard earned money in a dwindling economy. They were caught and were subsequently arrested

3. Other cases recorded in our files include: Keeping excess foreign currency, Female youths in schools asked to bribe by means of sexual intercourse to pass examinations
